To define the activity of a company, one can refer to its business sector.
Business sectors
The distribution of businesses by sector changes over time and varies greatly by location. It is logical, for example, that there are more agricultural companies in the countryside than in the city.
The business sectors are divided into three main categories:
🌾 Primary, which is the exploitation of natural resources such as agriculture, fishing, forestry or mining. Deposit mining is sometimes classified as secondary.
🏭 Secondary, which consists of the transformation of materials and therefore includes everything related to industry.
💻 Tertiary, which stands for services. It is possible to separate services into two categories, commercial operations, such as shops or any kind of financial activity, and non-commercial operations, such as public services and education.
Thanks to our detailed database of the world’s companies, we were able to sort each company by business sector. For the sake of detail, we decided not to sort them with the three terminologies previously provided but as follows:
Primary sector is represented by agriculture.
Secondary is represented by industry.
The tertiary sector is separated into three sub-categories:
Retail
Construction
Other types of services provided by professionals.
Please keep in mind that our database focuses primarily on companies in the private sector, which explains the above distribution.
Unlike most of the data that can be obtained on the Internet from public statistical services such as INSEE in France, our database allows a statistical study sorted by town. The product sold will therefore offer a statistical study of the distribution of companies by business sector for each city hosting a company in our database.
